Mary Roberts Rinehart (1876-1958) was an American writer, often referred to as the "American Agatha Christie," known for her mystery and suspense novels and "Had-I-But-Known School" of mysteries.
The Window at the White Cat was published in 1910, is a mystery novel that involves a murder at a political club, with the protagonist, a young lawyer, becoming entangled in the investigation.
